In fast allen Impro-Schulen weltweit finden sich Varianten der Idee, „das Spiel der Szene“ zu finden. Und doch versteht jede*r Lehrer*in darunter etwas anderes. Während das UCB ein klar definiertes verbales Game unterrichtet, in der Tradition des Clownings eher das körperliche Game gesucht wird und das emotionale „Game“ in der Tradition von Keith Johnstone steht, gibt es darüber hinaus Mischformen. Geht es um die Beziehung zwischen der Figur und ihrer Umwelt, um ein Muster an Interaktionen oder um das Spielen mit den Wünschen und Bedürfnissen von zwei Charakteren? Zielt das „Spiel“ auf Comedy, verleiht es der Szene und der Story erst Fahrt oder ist es ein reines Trainingstool, um uns mehr in Kontakt zu bringen?

Wir haben einige unserer Lieblings-Trainer*innen – wie Felipe Ortiz (Bogotá), Dave Razowsky (New York), Shawn Kinley (Calgary), Steve Sim (Winnipeg), Lydia Hensler (Los Angeles), Steve Sim (Winnipeg) – gebeten, ihr Verständnis von dem Spiel der Szene zu unterrichten. Nadine Antler wird die Teilnehmer*innen auf der Reise durch die verschiedenen Impro-Schulen begleiten und Tipps zur konkreten Verwendung in Szenen geben sowie die Umsetzbarkeit mit den Teilnehmer*innen erproben.

Finding the Game of the Scene 

A laboratory, a cycle of lectures and all that with a lot of workshop practice!

In almost all improvisation schools worldwide you can find variations of the idea of „finding the game of the scene“. And yet every teacher refers to seemingly something different. While the UCB teaches a clearly defined verbal game, it is mostly about the physical game in the tradition of clowning and about the emotional „game“ is in the tradition of Keith Johnstone. And there are as many variations as improvisation schools. 

In this workshop series we want to explore all kinds of questions: Is the game mainly about the relationship between the character and their environment, or just a pattern of interaction, or is it playing with the wishes and needs of two characters? Does the „game“ aim at comedy, does it drive the scene and the story, or is it a pure training tool to get us in touch more?

We asked some of our favorite trainers – like Felipe Ortiz (Bogotá), Dave Razowsky (New York), Shawn Kinley (Calgary), Steve Sim (Winnipeg), Lydia Hensler (Los Angeles), Steve Sim (Winnipeg) – to teach their understanding of the game of the scene. Nadine Antler will accompany the participants on their journey through the various improv schools.
