The most watchable improvisors Joleen Ballendine and Amy Shostak bring an underlying joy to their work on stage. In this workshop the two great ladies from the duo Rå Power from Canada will share with you the spirit of their troupe Rapid Fire Theatre: making the most out of every second on stage, and chasing what brings you joy. We will explore techniques that allow performers to find their version of playfulness, bring it to the surface, and share it with the audience. Improv CAN be as fun as it looks!
Workshop note: please wear comfortable clothes you can easily move around in.
Instrutor: Joleen Ballendine
Joleen has been improvising with Edmonton’s Rapid Fire Theatre since 2007. She is the Associate Director of Education and is a senior player performing weekly in Theatresports, Maestro and CHiMPROV (Rapid Fire’s long form show). Some of her notable improv troupes include DotDotDot, Rå Power, and Z-Said. She is also the creator and lead instructor for the At-Risk-Youth Project, and recently started an improv program for kids called The Kidprovisors.
Instructor: Amy Shostak
Amy is an improvisor and creator living in Vancouver, Canada. She started improvising with Edmonton’s Rapid Fire Theatre in 2002, and she served as the company’s Artistic Director for six years. Amy now spends her time in Vancouver, teaching with Blind Tiger Comedy and Instant Theatre, and performing at Vancouver Theatresports League.
On Saturday, 7th of April 2018 Amy Shostak will focus in „WOMEN CENTRE STAGE“ on female improvisers and their work. Together with her participants she will explore making strong offers, embracing our unique voices and taking agency on any stage.
If you book both workshops – the workshop “CHASING THE JOY“ (Friday evening) and the workshop „WOMEN CENTRE STAGE“ (Saturday) – it will cost only 145 euros.
If you come from outside of Hamburg, we can also help you find affordable accommodation.
